Cheyenne Shopping and Districts

(Cheyenne, Wyoming - WY, USA)

Taking a walk around downtown Cheyenne will usually unearth plenty of shopping opportunities, particularly along the main thoroughfares, where big name department stores stand side by side local eateries, independent shops and local businesses.

Heading along the Lincoln Highway and its intersecting streets will reveal one of the best and most eclectic selections of shops in the city, where names include a choice of secondhand goodies at Marv's Place Pawn Shop, homewares and furnishings at Wyoming Home, unusual gifts at the Lavender Store, and rare antique coins at the Coin Shop.

For traditional American mall shopping in Cheyenne, head to the Dell Range Boulevard, on the northern side of the capital, which is where you will find the Frontier Mall. With more than 80 stores and a large cineplex attraction, this shopping mall is actually the second-biggest in the whole of Wyoming, opening in 1981 and being thoroughly revamped and extended in 2007.

When to Shop and Opening Hours

The shopping hours in Cheyenne are fairly long, with most shops opening Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 09:00 or 10:00, until 17:00, 18:00 or 19:00.

Many local stores also choose to open on Sundays, although the hours are shorter, often being limited to between 11:00 or 12:00 and 17:00, or thereabouts. However, the biggest supermarkets in Cheyenne, such as Safeway (South Greeley Highway) and the Walmart Supercenter (Dell Range Boulevard) open much longer, the latter of which offers 24-hour shopping.

Where to Shop

Situated close to the Cheyenne Regional Airport, the Frontier Mall is the number one shopping center in the city and being fully enclosed, this is certainly the place where locals come on a rainy day. There are several sizeable anchor stores based here, such as Dillard's, JC Penney, Sears and the Sports Authority.

Also located at the mall is American Eagle Outfitters for clothing, Kay Jewelers for diamond jewelry, and both Spencer Gifts and Coach House Gifts, which together serve as reliable places for souvenirs. Additional shopping options at the Frontier Mall include the likes of Gymboree, Nature's Touch, the Perfume Station Pet City, RadioShack, Sports Authority and Victoria's Secret.

Worth looking out for are the regular summer farmers' markets in Cheyenne, which are packed with free produce and take place from early August to early October. On Tuesdays, the market is held at the Depot Plaza on the Lincoln Way / Capitol Avenue, while on Sundays, it takes place in the parking lot next to the Outlaw Saloon, on the South Greeley Highway.
