Cheyenne Hotels and Accommodation

(Cheyenne, Wyoming - WY, USA)

More the size and appearance of a large town than a state capital, Cheyenne is a surprisingly busy city, with plenty of accommodation in the form of chain hotels, cheap motels and B&Bs. The aptly named Central Plaza Hotel enjoys a useful setting in the city center, next to the subway and a block from St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

It is certainly worth noting how local festivals can affect both the availability and price of lodging in the city. This is particularly so towards the end of July, when the Cheyenne Frontier Days arrives, with its rodeos, concerts and shows.

During the Frontier Days celebrations, Cheyenne accommodation becomes especially scarce, with lodging rates as much as doubling. Hotels within a 80-km / 50-mile radius of the city quickly become fully booked, meaning that if you are planning to visit at this time of the year, booking ahead is not just advisable, it is essential. Outside of this time, hotels reduce their rates and are at their absolute cheapest during the quiet, chilly winter months.

Where to Stay

For a taster of luxury accommodation in Cheyenne, the Little America Hotel and Resort on the West Lincoln Highway (Lincolnway / US-30) boasts almost 200 guest rooms and comes highly recommended, being located on the southwestern side of the city. This is actually the biggest meeting and convention hotel in the whole of Wyoming, while close by, you will find the Little American Golf Course and Hathaways Restaurant.

Nearby, a series of cheap motels are to be found lining Interstate I-25, noticeably clustered around junction 9. Budget accommodation in this part of Cheyenne includes brands such as Americas Best Value Inn and Suites, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, and Microtel Inn & Suites.

Roughly 50 minutes to the west of Cheyenne and reached via Interstate I-80, the neighboring city of Laramie offers further accommodation choices, with popular hotels such as the Best Western Laramie Inn on Banner Road. Hotels in Laramie have the advantage of being slightly cheaper than those in downtown Cheyenne, whilst being conveniently close to the wildlife refuges of Bamforth, Hutton Lake and Mortenson Lake.
