Finding a decent place to stay in Williamsburg is certainly not difficult and considering its relatively small size and population, the city certainly comes with a huge choice of accommodation. Hotels in Williamsburg are generally very reasonably priced, with the most appealing to be found around the Historic Area and close to the Duke of Gloucester Street.

If you are wishing to explore this part of Virginia, then you may also like to consider the hotels residing within the neighboring city of Richmond, which lies just over 50 miles / 80 km to the northwest of Williamsburg and comes with its own selection of accommodation, both in the city and around its airport. In the opposite direction, further hotels reside around the coastal resorts of Hampton and Virginia Beach, while the cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk and Portsmouth are also well within commuting distance.


Where to Stay

If you have arrived in the city without first booking your accommodation, then you may well like to pay a visit to the Williamsburg Hotel / Motel Association, which is to be found on the northerly side of the Historic Area, between the Colonial Parkway and Route 132. Staff at this center will be able to assist you in finding affordable lodging at no charge whatsoever.

Those looking for budget accommodation in the city should consider staying at the King Guest Home on Cary Street, which is conveniently just a few blocks away from the attractions of Colonial Williamsburg. Particularly cheap is the Days Inn Hotel on Bypass Road, on the northerly side of the city, where lodging is close to the Pirate's Cove miniature golf course and the Kingsgate Green Shopping Center. If you prefer camping, then choose between the Williamsburg and Colonial KOA Resorts, both of which stand on Newman Road and come with exceptional family oriented facilities, including heated pools, movie screenings and game rooms.

Some of the most notable mid-range accommodation in Williamsburg is plentiful around 2nd Street, the Merrimac Trail, York Street and Richmond Road, where the highly recommended three-star Holiday Inn Express Hotel is a particular highlight and to be found in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, near to Plumeri Park and some 6 miles / 10 km from the Busch Gardens theme park.

Close by is the renowned Homewood Suites by Hilton on the Bypass Road US-60, where further familiar hotels include Country Inn, Embassy Suites and Fairfield Inn, amongst others. Just a short distance to the south is the Williamsburg Shopping Center, the College of William and Mary, and innumerable restaurants. Also of note and very affordable is the well-placed Governor's Inn on North Henry Street, where lodging rates are comparable to cheap motels. Those looking to stay next to the Water Country USA water park will find that the Days Inn Hotel on the Water Country Parkway is the closest bet.

If you favor luxury accommodation, then the Williamsburg Inn on East Francis Street serves as the city's premier hotel. Built in 1937 and known for its opulence, the four-star Williamsburg Inn is now listed on America's National Register of Historic Places and is in close proximity to the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. Somewhat more affordable is the Kingsmill Resort on Kingsmill Road, on the far southeasterly side of the city, which is just minutes from the Busch Gardens and the Williamsburg Country Club.
