Oklahoma City Churches and Cathedrals

(Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - OK, USA)

Oklahoma City has a strong religious heritage and its university was actually established by the United Methodist Church in the early 1900s. The First Baptist Church on North Robinson Avenue is especially notable and as well as hosting regular masses, it also stages classic musicals, with past productions including 'It's a Wonderful Life'.

St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral stands just across from the Oklahoma City National Memorial, where it was founded more than 100 years ago. St. Paul's was badly damaged in the Murrah bombing, although it has since been thoroughly restored and rebuilt.

Possibly the city's favorite, the First Baptist Church takes up a whole block and is situated directly to the south of the Kindred Hospital. This Gothic sprawl is impressive in size, although some people consider its interior to be austere and somewhat Spartan. Boasting a row of stained-glass windows and a huge pipe organ, the church is worth a visit for its Gothic beauty and enormous wooden-beamed interior.
