This urban park is a St. Louis favorite, providing an escape from city life. Forest Park occupies more than 1,200 acres / 480 hectares, making it even bigger than New York's Central Park. It attracts literally millions of visitors each year, containing as it does historic buildings and monuments, not too mention attractions including the Jewel Box glasshouse, St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum and Science Center.

Fairgrounds Park

Covering more than 130 acres / 52 hectares, Fairgrounds Park offers visitors to St. Louis an array of recreational activities including fishing and swimming. The park also boasts tennis courts, a playground, softball and baseball fields and other sporting facilities. Interestingly, it is still possible to see the old bear pits of the zoological gardens, which once existed as part of the fairgrounds.

Covering more than 70 acres / 28 hectares, these lovely gardens are a great place to unwind in St. Louis. The historic Missouri Botanical Gardens feature a Japanese Garden, conservatories and the beautiful home of the garden's founder, Henry Shaw. Visitor's can take advantage of free guided tours of the Missouri Botanical Gardens, which operate daily at 13:00.

Compton Hill Reservoir Park

Compton Hill Reservoir Park is home to some impressive architectural features, including the Compton Hill Water Tower, built in French Romanesque style; an attractive reservoir; and a memorial statue called 'The Naked Truth'. The park also features an ornamental fountain and a playground.
