Saint Louis Churches and Cathedrals

(Saint Louis, Missouri - MO, USA)

Places of worship are certainly plentiful in St. Louis, with many old churches and a couple of rather special cathedrals. The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis is one such building and stands on the corner of Lindell Boulevard and North Newstead Avenue, where it was built between the years of 1907 and 1914, and estimated to cost more than $3 million at the time.

The Saint Louis Cathedral is of epic proportions and can accommodate some 2,500 seated worshippers, and 5,000 in total - when the gallery spaces are included. Visitors will be able to admire some fine mosaics added between 1912 and 1988, a museum in the basement, and an undercroft chapel. Head to the east and the rather more centrally located Christ Church Cathedral stands out, being next to the Public Library and just a couple of blocks away from the Jefferson National Expansion Monument.
