Some of the earliest Westerners who stepped foot on Kauai were actually artists, and so from the very earliest settlements, art was always an important part of island life. Today, several art galleries of a commercial nature are spread around Kauai, providing tourists with the opportunity to take home a piece of the island's culture with them.

Paintings, prints, various wooden sculptures and locally made handicrafts are amongst the most popular offers at the main art galleries on Kauai, many of which are reasonably priced and easily packed into a suitcase. Alternatively, the main galleries on Kauai, including Hale Mana Fine Art in the beach resort of Poipu, will happily arrange for larger art works to be sent directly to your home address where necessary.

International Surfing Hall of Fame

Located within the Anchor Cove Shopping Center in Lihue, next to Kalapaki Bay, the International Surfing Hall of Fame moved to its currently location in 2004, although was actually first established in the mid-sixties. This museum is now the biggest of its kind in the whole of the USA and is filled with all kinds of surfing memorabilia, photographs and related art works

Hale Mana Fine Art

Located on the far southern side of Kauai and next to Koloa, the Hale Mana Fine Art resides within Poipu, where it has become well known for its bright oil and water colour canvasses, as well as limited-edition prints, inexpensive ornaments, gift ideas and unusual silks. Also for sale here are some hand-blown glassworks, wood carvings, antique Hawaiian furnishings and plenty of souvenirs for all budgets.

Kahn Galleries

A established gallery on the island's famed Coconut Coast, the Kahn Galleries is a good place to find pieces created by local Hawaiian artists on Kauai. These include both original paintings and affordable prints by noteworthy artists, along with bronze sculptures, fun knick-knacks, raku pottery and some international art works with strong themes.
