Key West is lively both by day and night at any time of the year, and is a favorite haunt with gays and lesbians, with many appealing districts, locations and areas. The rich history of Key West was built on the cigar industry and trade from the sea, and as a result there are several distinct and charming districts and neighborhoods scattered across the island.

Duval Street is the heart of Key West's Old Town and rocks with a profusion of bars and street vendors, while Mallory Square is the famed locale from where to view the ever changing sunsets.

Bahama Village

Located between Whitehead and Fort streets in Old Town Key West, Bahama Village was the one time settlement of black Bahamian migrants back in the 19th century, a popular hangout for writer Ernest Hemingway in the 1930s and now one of the most intriguing and popular shopping and social areas in Key West.


Duval Street

Duval Street is known for its hedonistic nightlife and is the heart of the Old Town in Key West. Lively at any time of day or night, Duval Street has an array of museums and galleries, eateries in all categories, bars with live entertainment and endless fashionable clothes stores.

Historic Seaport at Key West Bight

The Historic Seaport, a hive of activity both day and night, is a large area along the waterfront that encompasses 100 businesses including museums, the waterfront market, restaurants, bars, clothing stores, dive shops and the Key West Rowing Club.

Marine Park is one of the best regions in Key West for snorkeling and is particularly famed for its hard bottom and soft coral communities. Operated by the non-profit group Reef Relief and the City of Key West, Marine Park is in the south of Key West.

New Town

The New Town of Key West is the eastern part of the island that stretches along the North Roosevelt Boulevard and A1A highways. Here you will find big hotel chains, shopping centers and not as much historical interest as the Old Town. Highlights in this part of Key West include the former home of Tennessee Williams on Duncan Street and several parks, such as Little Hamaca Park, McCoy Indigenous Park and Bayview Park.

Old Town

Developed in the waterfront area back in the early 19th century, Key West's Old Town was built up by rich seamen who constructed lavish homes, warehouses, wharves and endless stores. The Old Town is the heart of Key West and its multitude of charming, leafy streets are home to numerous quaint Victorian buildings, museums, galleries and shops that combine to form one of the largest collections of such buildings in the country.
