Those looking for a place to worship whilst on holiday will find that Key West contains plenty of extremely beautiful and historic churches and chapels.

Located on Duval Street and close to both the Hard Rock Cafe and the Tropic Cinema, the unfortunate St. Paul's Episcopal Church has needed to be rebuilt no less than four times owing to numerous natural disasters. However, when it was rebuilt in 1919, sea water and sand from the Key West beachfront was used within the concrete mixture and over the years, the high content of salt caused serious corrosion. This meant that by 1991, the structure was becoming unsafe and close to collapsing. At the cost of just under $1 million, restoration work in 1993 ensured that St. Paul's has been rescued for future generations to enjoy.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church was the city's very first and was originally constructed out of coral between 1838 and 1839, only to be destroyed by a hurricane in 1846, by the Great Fire of 1886, and by yet another hurricane in 1909. The present church was rebuilt in concrete and has spectacular stained-glass windows. Look out for the ghost of John Fleming, the provider of the land.
