Denver Churches and Cathedrals

(Denver, Colorado - CO, USA)

Denver is filled with modern buildings, which is why the numerous historic churches and other religious buildings are so important to the city. The Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral is one of the most noteworthy and is famous for its large golden dome, topped with a simple cross.

Another religious highlight in Denver is the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, located on the corner of Colfax Avenue and Logan Street, and residing within the North Capitol Hill district. Built between 1902 and 1911 at the cost of roughly $0.5 million, the cathedral serves the Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church and was consecrated in 1912, becoming known as a minor basilica in 1979. In 1993, Pope John Paul II held mass here and his attendance is honored by a large bronze statue outside.
