Denver Zoo is an impressive and innovative facility that is home to some 4,000 animals, many of them endangered, and a range of spacious habitats that give visitors the chance to see animals in their natural environment as much as possible. Popular attractions at these zoological gardens include Predator Ridge, an area that recreates the African Savannah, and a painted rhino; while the zoo is also well-known for its conservation efforts.

Downtown Aquarium

Downtown Aquarium, formerly known as Colorado's Ocean Journey, offers the visitor a range of aquatic exhibits and ecosystems from around the world including an interactive sting ray reef touch tank. Exhibits are housed in over one million gallons of water that is home to over 500 species of animals.

Six Flags Elitch Gardens Theme Park

This theme park has been around since 1889 and even though the rides may have changed over the years, as well as the location, the same atmosphere of family fun and entertainment persists. Among the 45 rides and attractions on offer at Denver's Six Flags Elitch Gardens Theme Park are the popular Flying Coaster, the daunting Twister II, the Halfpipe and the stomach churning Tower of Doom. The fully restored carousel dating back to 1925 will appeal to older generations, while Looney Tunes MovieTown was designed with the kids in mind. Also on offer are stunt shows, concerts, arcade games and landscaped gardens.

US Mint

The US Mint, in downtown Denver, was opened in 1863 and is one of only two in the country where visitors can actually watch coins being produced. There is a self-guided tour with informative signs and great views of the minting process; while scheduled tours need to be booked in advance through congressional representatives, as security measures have increased over the last few years. Uncertainty remains as to whether walk-in visitors will be allowed in the future.
