A medium-sized city with a population that now tops 300,000 means that Stockton has a more than reasonable selection of hotels. The accommodation scene here is further boosted by its relative proximity to San Francisco and Sacramento, both of which are popular day trip destinations and easy to reach by a number of different means.

Lodging in Stockton tends to be located within the city centre and on the northeasterly and northwesterly outskirts, close to a number of local golf courses. Visitors looking for accommodation in the city center will find that many hotels and guest houses are within simple walking distance of attractions such as the Children's Museum of Stockton, the Cathedral of the Annunciation and the Eastland Plaza Shopping Center.

In downtown Stockton, some of the most popular hotels radiate outwards from the Weber Point Events Center and the marina at McLeod Lake. These include the Howard Johnson on North Center Street and the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel on West Fremont Street, the latter of which boasts rooms overlooking the channel.

Where to Stay

Located just a few blocks away from Weber Point and suiting travelers on the lookout for budget accommodation is the Stockton Traveler's Motel on North Center Street. Just a short distance further north is the El Dorado Inn, which also manages to offer up some competitive lodging rates, although does seem to get consistently poor reviews.

On the southern side of downtown Stockton, further hotels line West Charter Way, often being close to the junction with the West Side Freeway (Interstate I-5). This is where you will find both a Days Inn and a Motel 6, along with a mixture of additional budget motels close by.

To the northwest of Stockton and still based around the West Side Freeway, further accommodation sits just down the road from the Brookside Golf and Country Club, also being within close proximity to the Buckley Cove Park. Here, the RiverPoint Landing Marina Resort is a popular attraction in its own right and has an extensive camping ground, welcoming RVs.

Hotels based around the West Side Freeway and intersecting West March Lane include many familiar chains and brands, such as Comfort Inn, Courtyard, Extended Stay, Hilton and Residence Inn.
