San Jose Property Market and Real Estate Guide

(San Jose, California - CA, USA)

City view of San JoseSilicon Valley's main city is part of the San Francisco Bay area and is a very popular place for families to settle. Known for its seemingly endless sunshine, the city has a buzzing and well-connected downtown, and boasts many green areas.

San Jose's popularity as a place to buy property is also bolstered by the proximity of San Francisco and its international airport, plus it is home to an array of high powered tech firms.

Unfortunately, the price of housing in San Jose is expensive on a national scale, as well as on a statewide scale. The southern part of San Jose, Calero, is the most exclusive, followed by the southeast and the east. Downtown is moderate in price and the northern areas the cheapest, especially Berryessa.

Prices for rentals are also quite steep and in line with those of popular beach areas of Los Angeles, for example.

Renting Serviced Apartments

Serviced apartments in San Jose are not as popular as house rentals, owing to a high portion of people owning or living in houses. There are plenty of apartments that go from studio size up to fully-fitted out three bedroom places, though. The latter have full kitchens, TVs, and air conditioning, along with maid service.

Leases are typically six months minimum, yet quarterly and even monthly contracts can sometimes be had. Prices for renting serviced apartments in San Jose are high and on par with LA or New York. Head for the northern areas and downtown for the better deals.

Buying Apartments and Houses

San Jose is one of California's most thriving cities with plenty of appeal and is thus a good investment if you can get on the property ladder. There are many exclusive districts in the town, where prices are way higher than the national average, although a real estate agent can locate the cheaper areas. Prices are similar to San Francisco proper and Los Angeles.

Foreigners can buy in San Jose without restriction, but it may be tough for foreigners to secure a mortgage with low deposit, owing to today's economic outlook. Taxes and fees for buyers are around seven percent.

Real Estate Agents

The best way to locate real estate agents in San Jose is to search online. Any US real estate agent worth their salt should have a good website today. Always look for one that has several years of experience in the field, combined with a varied portfolio.
