San Jose Hotels and Accommodation

(San Jose, California - CA, USA)

The city of San Jose really is an appealing destination, boasting a lively downtown district and plenty of accommodation. San Jose enjoys relative proximity to Sunnyway, the Redwood City, San Mateo and of course, the city of San Francisco, which is approximately just under an hour away by car and comes with an enormous selection of world-class hotels.

Further accommodation on the outskirts of San Jose is to be found within the neighboring towns and cities of Alviso, Campbell, Milpitas and Santa Clara, all of which are a part of the Santa Clara county.

There is also a selection of hotels close to the Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC), which is only 3 miles / 5 km to the northwest of downtown, between the Bayshore Freeway and the Nimitz Freeway. Reliable hotels and lodging options within a 1-mile / 1.5-km radius of the Mineta Airport include familiar chains such as Best Western, Clarion, Comfort Suites, Days Inn, Executive Inn, Extended Stay, Homestead and La Quinta Inn.

Where to Stay

Budget accommodation in San Jose is most plentiful on the city outskirts and around the airport, although backpackers may be disappointed to learn that there are no youth hostels in the city. There are, however, some well-priced two-star hotels to choose between, such as the Days Inn on Fontaine Road East, which stands close to the Bayshore Freeway US-101 and is just a short drive from the Eastbridge Mill, Lake Cunningham Park and the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.

If your budget allows and you are prepared to pay a little more for your San Jose lodging, then consider staying along Monterey Road, North First Street or Tully Road, where the three-star Best Western Lanai Garden Inn is well-placed for access to Silicon Valley businesses. Similarly priced is the Crowne Plaza Hotel on the Almaden Boulevard, which lies within downtown San Jose and is just across from both the Center for Performing Arts and the McEnery Convention Center. On the southeasterly outskirts of San Jose, the Holiday Inn Express on Monterey Road is right next to the chain of parks bordering the Coyote Creek and is also near to the Santa Teresa Golf Course.

For luxury accommodation in San Jose, the four-star Hotel Valencia on Santana Row really does stand out and is a great place for shoppers, since it is near to the Winchester Shopping Center and the Valley Fair Shopping Center. Also close by are a number of notable attractions, such as the famous Winchester Mystery House and Santana Park. Considerably cheaper and still offering four-star lodging is the Dolce Hayes Mansion on Edenvale Avenue, next to Edenvale Park, which was formerly a magnificent private estate and dates back more than 100 years.

Situated in the center of San Jose, the very upmarket Sainte Claire Larkspur Hotel on South Market Street is handy for the McEnery Convention Center, the Tech Museum of Innovation and also the Plaza de César Chávez - a spacious public square known for its water fountains and seasonal festivals. Close by is the popular Marriott Hotel, which is actually directly linked with the Convention Center and regularly gets fully booked when a major event is taking place next door, such as the Spring Home Show in March / April.
