Riverside Shopping and Districts

There are a series of shopping centers and malls within the boundaries of Riverside, being easy to find and explore, and a good place to spend your vacation money. Popular shops can be found around the University Village, along Main Street and within the Riverside Plaza, amongst other destinations.

Within the city centre itself, the Downtown Pedestrian Mall is an ideal spot to begin a day of retail therapy. A number of speciality stores and independent shops reside here, along Main Street, and it is certainly a pleasant way to spend a few hours. The Downtown Pedestrian Mall is just a stroll away from the city's bus terminal and is completely traffic free. This is a great place to look for gifts.

For some serious shopping, do consider heading to the very centrally located Riverside Plaza, which is a large complex found within the Magnolia Center, along Central Avenue. There are more than 50 different stores and eateries based at the Plaza, including familiar names such as Chico's, CVS, Daniel's Jewelers, Forever 21, Marshalls, Pinkheart Accessories and Trader Joe's. There is also an extensive food court onsite, together with a Regal Stadium Cinema with 16 screens.


Where to Shop

As the biggest indoor shopping mall within the area and certainly within Riverside, the fully air-conditioned Galleria at Tyler is the ideal place to escape from the hot midday sun. The Galleria at Tyler is located just off the Riverside Freeway (US-91, exit 56) and opened here in the year 1970, enjoying substantial renovations at the beginning of the 1990s.

Today, there are in excess of 170 stores and services based within the covered Galleria at Tyler complex, including anchor stores such as Forever 21, JC Penney, Macy's and Nordstrom. Almost 6,000 parking spaces grace the mall, although at the busiest shopping times, it can sometimes be difficult finding somewhere to park your vehicle. Therefore, you may like to catch one of the regular connecting buses.

Other shopping opportunities around Riverside can be found at the Canyon Crest Towne Centre on Canyon Crest Drive, at Canyon Springs just off Highway US-60, and along Pierce Street, where the Shops at Riverwalk is a busy strip mall comprising an assortment of shops and eateries, as well as a hotel and landscaped grounds.

The Arlington Square Shopping Center, on the corner of Madison Street and Arlington Avenue, is a relatively small affair and comes with stores such as Big Lots, Dollar Tree, Hannah Fashion and T-Mobile, while in neighboring Moreno Valley and roughly 11 miles / 18 km to the east of Riverside is the popular Moreno Valley Mall and its 140+ stores. The Moreno Valley Mall opened in 1992 and is also home to the Harkins Theaters cineplex.
