Being found on the southern side of the state means that Riverside is well placed for a variety of day trips. Many tempting attractions are easy to reach if you have booked a hire car, thanks to the profusion of highways and interstates passing by the city, such as the I-15 and I-215 interstates.

Highway US-91 heads in a southwesterly direction and connects Riverside with popular destinations such as Corona, the Chino Hills State Park and Anaheim Hills. Excursions to Anaheim are just a little further away, with this famous Californian city being home to the original Disneyland theme park.

Anaheim is roughly 36 miles / 58 km from Riverside and is also home to a number of additional family themed offerings, such as Adventure City, while just next door is the Knott's Berry Farm Theme Park in neighboring Buena Park. Knott's Berry Park is known for its exciting rollercoasters, which are spread around six different themed areas within the park itself.


General Information

Day trips to Los Angeles are quite possible and worth considering. This iconic city of Hollywood movie stars is found a little over 55 miles / 89 km to the west of Riverside. Driving to Los Angeles is extremely straightforward once you reach Highway CA-91 and then Interstate I-10, which passes by West Covina, El Monte and Monterey Park, and leads all the way into the City of Angels, Los Angeles.

If you fancy an excursion to the coast, then plenty of stunning beaches and resorts line the Pacific coastline of South California. San Clemente is particularly easy to travel to and is just over an hour to the south of Riverside, being found within Orange County and often referred to as the 'Spanish Village by the Sea'. The pier located on San Clemente Beach is amongst the main attractions on this stretch of the coastline, along with the plentiful water sports offerings, such as some superb surfing conditions.

Other attractions lining South California, suiting day trips from Riverside, include those of Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and the city of Long Beach, where families will enjoy paying a visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden and the retired Queen Mary ocean liner. Each year in April, the Long Beach Grand Prix is quite unmissable and features IndyCar racing through the streets of the city center.
