Riverside Tourist Attractions and Sightseeing

Although the city of Riverside may well be within relative proximity to Los Angeles, tourists don't need to venture far from a centrally located hotel to find plenty of attractions and distractions.

Situated a five-minute walk from the downtown bus terminal, the Mount Rubidoux Park is a pleasant place to hang out on a sunny afternoon, being a city park since the mid-1950s and open from sunrise to sunset. Mount Rubidoux itself can be climbed and boasts views as far as the Moreno Valley (east) and Corona (west).

The California Citrus State Historic Park is another tourist attraction worth finding in Riverside and offers a real insight into the period when the city was filled with orange tree groves. Of interest, the county was named Orange County in 1889, due to the abundance of this popular citrus fruit within its boundaries.


Families on vacation in Riverside will enjoy a trip to the Castle Park theme park, which comes with three rollercoasters (Screamin' Demon, Fireball and Little Dipper) and a number of funfair rides, along with other themed attractions such as the interactive Ghost Blasters ride, the log flume ride and the vertical Dragon's Tower ride.

Tourists may also like to consider a stroll around the University of California (Riverside) Botanical Gardens, a trip to the expansive Fairmount Park (14 hectares / 35 acres) or a day of mountain biking or hiking around the Box Springs Mountain Reserve, on the eastern side of the city.
