Scottsdale is the place to head for arts and crafts in the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Showcasing the latest in contemporary design, art and architecture from around the world, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art has been a focal point for contemporary art in the region since its opening in 1999. Housed in a building designed by acclaimed architect Will Bruder, this minimalist structure encompasses five galleries. Hosting frequently changing exhibitions, a permanent collection and a sculpture garden, this is a museum that will inspire and challenge your ideas about art.

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts

While not an art museum as such, the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is the epicenter of the arts scene in the city, with small visiting exhibitions and musical, theatrical and dance performances hosted throughout the year. Educational programs and workshops feature regularly and the genre of arts explored here is wide and inviting.

Arizona State University (ASU) Art Museum

Housed in a contemporary concrete structure, this top notch art museum focuses on contemporary art. American Fine Art Editions

Situated just a couple of blocks from the city's Center for the Performing Arts and within the Old Town, the American Fine Art Editions gallery is a commercial venture serving as a significant source for many private collectors. Spread around an exhibition space covering approximately 12,000 square feet / 1,115 square meters, the choice of paintings is certainly impressive and if your budget allows, you will be able to purchase creations by the likes of Chagall, Miro, Picasso, Renoir and Warhol, together with some authentic Rembrandt etchings. Visitors will also likely appreciate the various sculptures and lithographs, along with the hand-blown glassworks. In general, the gallery specializes in American and European paintings created between the 19th and 21st centuries, while a framing service, elaborate designer jewelry, large colorful prints and changing exhibitions are all further highlights.

Cosanti Originals

Now a registered historic site, Cosanti Originals is a complex of cast concrete structures made by Paolo Soleri. Here visitors are also able to check out his studio, where his famous bronze wind bells are made and sold.
