Mesa Shopping and Districts

(Mesa, Arizona - AZ, USA)

As one of the biggest and most significant cities in Arizona state, Mesa comes with an impressive shopping scene that is unlikely to disappoint.

Around the city center, shops lie either side of the Superstition Freeway (US-60), being easy to reach and often close to attractions, such as the Dobson Ranch Golf Course, Emerald Park and Harmony Park. Lying on the southwestern side of Mesa and just off the Superstition Freeway is the ever popular Fiesta Shopping Mall, which is just a short distance from the downtown core and resides in between the Mesa Community College and the Fiesta Lakes Golf Club.

The Fiesta Mall offers the chance for some serious retail therapy, since it boasts in excess of 115 stores and services. This mall is anchored by big name department stores such as Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dillard's, Macy's and Sears. Opened in 1979, the Fiesta Mall was an immediate success, although unfortunately served as something of a catalyst for the decline of the shopping corridor of Main Street. However, in recent years, Main Street has enjoyed greater success and increased footfall, thanks to more emphasis upon independent, locally owned stores.

When to Shop and Opening Hours

Due to the extreme midday heat that is ever-present in this part of Arizona, shops in Mesa often choose to extend their hours to take advantage of the cooler evenings, when many people prefer to venture outside and spend their money, shopping or dining out. In particular, the Fiesta Mall opts to stay open until as late as 21:00 Monday through Saturday, only closing earlier on Sundays, at 18:00.

Where to Shop

Located on the northwestern side of the city, just off the Red Mountain Freeway (US-202), is the Mesa Riverview. This retail complex is an extensive strip mall with plenty of shops and parking, as well as a Cinemark Theater. Walmart and Home Depot stores have been present here since the opening of the Mesa Riverview in 2007. Just a few miles away, in neighboring Tempe, is the Tempe Marketplace, a large open-air shopping center comprising more than 100 stores.

Also situated in Mesa is the Superstition Springs Center, yet another mall with some big attractions and significant anchors, such as Dillard's, JC Penney and Macy's. Found on the eastern side of the city, the Superstition Springs Center is based around a large open-air amphitheater, where free concerts and outdoor events take place between the months of May and August, usually being staged on Saturday evenings.

At the Dana Park Village Square on South Val Vista Drive, more than 70 stores and eateries await shoppers, including Barnes and Noble, Coldwater Creek, Downeast Outfitters, Kirkland's, Jared Galleria of Jewellery and Z Gallerie. And roughly 3 miles / 5 km to the west of Dana Park, in the direction of the city center, the Mesa Grand Shopping Center on South Stapley Drive provides further shopportunities with its homeware stores, fashion boutiques, PetSmart, Walmart SuperCenter and AMC Theaters 24 cineplex.
