Mesa Restaurants and Dining

(Mesa, Arizona - AZ, USA)

There is certainly more to the dining scene in Mesa than just burgers and steaks, with the state's Southwestern cuisine often being described as 'Sonoran'. Meat provides a staple in many restaurant dishes, along with seafood such as mackerel, sardines, scallops, shrimp and snapper.

Dining menus frequently feature noticeable Tex-Mex influences, such as spicy dishes and large tortillas with grilled meats, chillies and refried beans, as well as tacos stuffed with rich fillings.

Each year at the end of September is the Arizona Restaurant Week, with many local eateries in Mesa choosing to participate, together with numerous dining establishments in nearby Carefree, Cave Creek, Chandler, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Litchfield Park, Paradise Valley, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise and Tempe. Participating eateries in Mesa include the Beaver Choice on West Baseline Road, Carrabba's Italian Grill on South Clearview Avenue, and the Patio Restaurant at the Las Sendas Golf Club, on East Eagle Crest Drive.

Where to Eat

Shoppers at the Fiesta Mall in West Mesa will find that not only are there lots of stores, but conveniently there are a number of eateries, allowing you to take a rest and enjoy a bite to eat at lunchtime. Dining options at the Fiesta Mall include Charley's Grilled Subs, Chinese Dim Sum, La Carreta de Lily, Los Hijos de Sushi, Sbarro and Subway, while on the adjacent Ring Road is a Longhorn Steakhouse and a branch of the popular In-N-Out Burger fast-food restaurant.

Eateries are also in good supply at the Mesa Riverview retail center on the northwesterly side of the city, close to Loop 202. This open-air shopping complex is home to roughly 20 different restaurants, cafes and takeaways, with some of the busiest being Arby's, Chick-Fil-A, Famous Dave's, Logan's Roadhouse, McDonald's, Panda Express, Peter Piper Pizza and Taco Bell.

For an evening out and some serious fine dining, families in Mesa can't go far wrong choosing to pay a visit to Barro's Pizza Restaurant on North Power Road, close to the Red Mountain Park. Quality homemade pizzas, meatballs with spaghetti and various other pasta dishes all feature heavily on the menu, although due to its popularity, service can sometimes be a little on the slow side. Alternatively, both the Indian Oven on South Gilbert Road and the Rancho de Tia Rosa on East McKellips Road also come with rave reviews, along with a very pleasant atmosphere.

For a touch of class and history, the centrally located Landmark Restaurant (formerly the Alma Ward Meeting House) on West Main Street is the place to come, with this family owned dining venue beginning its life way back in the first decade of the 20th century, as a Mormon Church. Today, tasty food is more the order of the day, with house favorites coming in the form of chicken fried steak, old-fashioned pot roast, stuffed meat loaf and beef stroganoff. The Southwest tilapia, Tequila chicken and 14oz New York strip steaks are further dishes of note at the Landmark.
