Grand Canyon Hotels and Accommodation

(Grand Canyon, Arizona - AZ, USA)

The Grand Canyon National Park is extremely popular and the best accommodation in this scenic part of Arizona is often filled to capacity. Lodging reservations may be necessary literally months in advance, and hotels boasting views of the Grand Canyon itself are understandably in particular demand.

One of the most famous hotels is the 1905 El Tovar on the West Rim Drive, where some guest rooms boast stunning panoramas of the Grand Canyon and take bookings well over a year ahead, being favored by honeymooners. Those unable to locate available accommodation often choose to camp, with many appealing camping sites being based around the South Rim.

Where to Stay

Visitors to the Grand Canyon area should note that winter lodging rates for hotels are known to drop significantly during the months of January and February, to maintain occupancy levels.

Budget accommodation options around the South Rim include a number of lodges and campsites, such as the Bright Angel Lodge, the Phantom Ranch, the Mather Campground (the principal camping site at the South Rim), the Desert View Campground, and the Trailer Village. At the North Rim there is just one lodge (the stately Grand Canyon Lodge) and one campsite (the North Rim Campground) to choose between.

A number of chain motels are situated outside the park in nearby Tusayan (at the South Entrance Station), while further hotels can be found along the State Highway US-64, Highway US-180. Accommodation is also available at nearby towns close to the Grand Canyon National Park, such as Cameron (53 miles / 85 km east), Flagstaff (79 miles / 127 km south), Valle (31 miles / 50 km south) and Williams (60 miles / 97 km south).

Mid-range accommodation options are generally quite easy to locate within the South Rim area and comprise mainly three-star hotels and popular brands. The most notable lodging areas are the Grand Canyon Boulevard and the Grand Canyon Village, as well as the State Highway US-64, where reliable hotels include the Best Western Squire Inn, the Canyon Plaza, the Holiday Inn Express and the Red Feather Lodge, amongst others.

For a taste of luxury accommodation, you may like to consider lodging at the Grand Hotel on the State Highway US-64, which is really quite affordable and just a matter of minutes from the entrance to the park. Resembling a mountain chalet, the three-storey Grand Hotel comes with 121 guest rooms, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center and a Western-themed restaurant.
