Cozumel International Airport (CZM) Information

(Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico)

Photo of Cozumel AirportGrowing numbers of tourists are choosing Cozumel International as their main gateway to Mexico's biggest island. This small airport underwent a major expansion in 2003 and its six boarding gates now greet in the region of 450,000 passengers a year. Of note, the months of March, June and July tend to be the busiest times in terms of passenger numbers.

Several of the airport's direct routes are served by seasonal and low-budget flights connecting cities in North America. Carriers MAYAir and Mexicana de Aviación handle most of the domestic traffic to and from this less crowded alternative to the bustling Cancun International Airport. However, visitors can also fly into Cancun and then catch a ferry to Cozumel from the Playa del Carmen resort.

Cozumel International Airport stands north-west of San Gervasio - an important site of pre-Colombian civilisation, and is not far from the island's largest community, San Miguel, where a number of world-class diving facilities are located. Worth noting, a small aircraft flight between Cozumel and Cancun takes as little as 15 minutes.

Facilities:

Cars and Taxis

Poor signage, scarce parking and reckless scooter drivers are the biggest risks that drivers will encounter in Cozumel. Motorists wishing to stay cool should choose small, air-conditioned vehicles over jeeps. Any island location can be reached by car within 30 minutes from the airport. As taxis cannot park on airport property, passengers must walk to the Avenida 65 to catch taxi cabs.

Buses

Cozumel's only public transportation option comes in the form of the minibuses parked outside the airport's Arrivals hall, from where minibus tickets must be purchased prior to boarding. These buses travel to all of Cozumel's biggest resorts, while several hotels also offer their own private shuttle services, many of which are included in package holidays.
