Jasper is not overflowing with museums and art galleries, although the area does contain a number of notable cultural offerings that deserve your attention. Most museums here tend to feature extensive exhibits about the areas rich heritage and high concentration of wildlife.

Well worth visiting is the Den Wildlife Museum, which takes taxidermy to a whole new level, with its huge quantity of stuffed animals originating from Western Canada. Standing in the heart of the downtown district, the Gallery at Jasper Park Lodge promotes the works of many notable artists from Canada. Ranging from traditional landscape paintings to more contemporary, abstract works, Park Lodge also contains many stylish stone sculptures and changing exhibitions.

Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives

The Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives can be found in downtown and is housed in a particularly old and important building. Dedicated to the history of the Yellowhead corridor, which dates back more than 10,000 years, the venue displays extensive collections of local artifacts, which range from famous canoes to remains from coalmines and local paintings to exhibitions about the area's past fur trade. Other noteworthy highlights include a well-stocked gift shop selling handmade jewelry, a play area for children and meeting facilities.

Downtown Jasper's Den Wildlife Museum is worthy of a visit and celebrates the area's rich wildlife, with more than 100 stuffed specimens mounted in landscaped settings. From the giant grizzly bear to small colorful birds, this impressive collection has been formed over 50 years and includes animals from all over the western side of Canada.
