Jasper Neighborhoods, Locations and Districts

Standing in the heart of Jasper National Park and close to the Banff National Park, the Jasper townsite is situated alongside the scenic Athabasca River. With countless outdoor activities available year round and a wealth of nearby wildlife, life here is centered around the downtown district. Many of the top attractions, hotels and restaurants are located in the heart of the Jasper's downtown core, along both Connaught Drive and Patricia Street.

A number of impressive scenic locations lie next to Jasper and are particularly popular with both locals and tourists, including the Patricia and Pyramid Lakes, Maligne Canyon, the Annette and Edith Lakes and also the Monashee Mountains. The Marmot Basin is located to the south of Jasper and each winter becomes a major ski resort. Here are Jasper's main districts, neighborhoods and locations.


Downtown District

Much of life in Jasper is centered around both Connaught Drive and nearby Patricia Street, which run alongside each other. Close to the Athabasca River, the Yellowhead Highway and the railway line, Jasper's downtown core also includes Miette Avenue and Geikie Street. Jasper's downtown district contains many notable restaurants and places to eat, including the Athabasca Hotel, Coco's Café, the Fiddle River Seafood Bar and the Jasper Pizza Place. Downtown Jasper is home to the Sierra Internet Café, where you can have a bite to eat whilst checking your email. Also in the heart of the downtown district lies the Chaba Cinema, the Den Wildlife Museum, Maligne Tours and a range of specialist, activity-based shops.

Highlights on the northern side of the townsite include the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives, the Jasper Tourism and Commerce Center, Jasper Municipal Library, the Jasper Activity Center, the Aquatic Center and an array of further hotels, restaurants and shops, which stretch along both Connaught Drive and Patricia Street. Hotels in the downtown district are particularly concentrated at northern end of Connaught Drive and along the Pyramid Lakes Road.

Patricia and Pyramid Lakes

Situated around 4 miles / 7 km to the northwest of Jasper, the Patricia and Pyramid Lakes can be reached along Pyramid Lake Road. This area is particularly tranquil and offers endless outdoor activities, which include fishing, hiking trails, horseback riding, picnic spots, windsurfing and even a number of beach areas. Canoes and kayaks can also be hired here.

Annette and Edith Lakes

Around 2 miles / 3 km northeast of Jasper, along the Lodge Road, the Annette and Edith Lakes are often warm enough for swimming. With wooded areas, walking and hiking pathways, cycling trails, beaches and boat hire, this peaceful location is favored by locals.

Monashee Mountains

On the western side of Jasper, the scenic Monashee Mountains are a popular place to visit, with a number of recreational activities on offer here. White-water rafting is also available in the Monashee Mountains, together with hiking and excellent views of the tallest mountain in the whole of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Mount Robson.
