Re. Cool runnings
You did right not to bother going up too far. As you said incredibly dangerous and there are more bad stories than good. We got ripped off by the vendors too as well as viciously dragged from one shop to the other by them. Good but I won't be going again in any hurry.

Cool runnings
We'd heard all about Dunn's River and the falls - they sounded like Heaven on Earth. Although what we saw was pretty good, we didn't see enough and thought it was too dangerous to try and climb them like the younger ones were doing. I refrained from buying anything from the vendors too, just something about them I wasn't comfortable with. Still recommended though.

Re. Up close and personal with the dolphins
Was it the bottlenose dolphins you were with? Well, your wife and kids should I say. We definitely got up close and personal as your title suggests and I would like to add that there are varying interaction levels available with the different programmes.

Up close and personal with the dolphins
My wife loves dolphins, as do the kids, so I decided to treat them to a day at the Dolphin Cove while I sat and drank Red Stripe all day as I watched the cricket. They loved it and couldn't get enough. Right in the centre too.

Safe as can be
I read a lot about people feeling unsafe around the Dunn's River area. Let me point out that there are shuttles that safely go along the river and they are very reasonably priced. They call this the coolest ride in town for a reason!
