Porto Alegre Hotels and Accommodation

(Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil)

A large Brazilian city with plenty of hotels, the accommodation scene in Porto Alegre ranges from budget lodging to fancy luxury options. Hotels with views of the freshwater Rio Guaiba (Guaiba Lake) are very desirable, as are those with easy access to the main attractions, including Ipanema Beach.

December and January are always busy months in Porto Alegre, when hotels are at their busiest and most pricey. February is another month when demand for accommodation is high, particularly when the famous Brazilian carnaval season arrives.

Where to Stay

Located on the Avenida Jose Loureiro da Silva and close to the Parque Paulo Gama, the Comfort Inn is a reliable option, providing two-star accommodation in a convenient location. Also offering good value and located near to the waterfront, the Ritter Hotel stands within the historical centre of Porto Alegre, on the Largo Vespasiano Julio Veppo, where it is conveniently close to the metro and bus stations.

Slightly more expensive are the city's three-star lodging options, which comprise a number of familiar accommodation chains, such as the Holiday Inn Hotel on the Avenida Carlos Gomes. Just a short distance from the Porto Alegre Country Club, the Holiday Inn comes highly recommended and was one of the first international hotels to arrive in the city.

Other familiar names now include Novotel (Avenida Soledade) and the rather more upmarket Sheraton (Rua Olavo Barreto Viana). The Sheraton Porto Alegre remains amongst the fanciest hotels in the city and resides some 3 km / 2 miles to the east of the centre, in the appealing Moinhos de Vento neighbourhood and right next to the Parque Moinhos. If you favour luxury accommodation, then the Mercure Porto Alegre Beverly Hills on the Rua Ramiro Barcellos, and the downtown Hotel Embaixador on the Rua Jeronimo Coelho, are both worthy of consideration.
