Boasting a tropical rainforest climate, the Amazon typically has two main seasons, each of which is quite distinctive. The rainy season in Belem tends to fall between December and May, featuring average daytime temperatures of between 30°C / 86°F and 32°C / 90°F.

Rainy weather is at its most frequent in February and March, when daily showers are not unheard of and monthly precipitation levels rise to 35 cm / 14 inches, or thereabouts. When it rains in Belem it really does pour. Heavy showers often start towards the end of the day and can quickly flood a road, disappearing almost as quickly as they arrive.
