Brasilia Shopping and Districts

(Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil)

Shopping in the national capital is one of the city's main attractions, with Brasilia being home to a number of large malls and bustling markets, packed with stalls and traders. Opened in 1997, Patio Brasil is located within the central SCS Quadra 07 area and generally considered as being Brasilia's leading modern mall, being home to in excess of 200 different stores, as well as a large food court with close to 30 eateries.

The oldest shopping mall in Brasilia is the Conjunto Nacional, which was built as far back as the early 1970s and resides in the Asa Norte SCLN area, close to the Praca dos Aposentados. Whilst the Conjunto Nacional may not be as large and impressive as the Patio Brasil mall, it has become well-known for its traditional Brazilian stores and large supermarket. Stores here are typical of malls in Brasilia, opening Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 09:00 to 22:00, and again on Sunday, from 14:00 to 22:00.

Where to Shop

Famed for its sophisticated stores and distinctive arch-shaped architecture, Brasilia Shopping is yet another mall worth looking out for and contains a number of large department stores. Located in the SCLN Quadra 05 area of the city, the Brasilia Shopping mall is within easy reach of the city's hotel sectors and comes with a multiscreen cinema, restaurants and cafes. Also of note is the Parkshopping mall in the Guara area, which is close to the airport and boasts approximately 350 shops in total, including nine familiar anchor stores.

If you prefer shopping streets rather than malls, then several possibilities present themselves. Previously a major commercial thoroughfare until the emergence of modern malls, the W3 Avenue has recently enjoyed much revitalisation and the shops are returning here once again. Shops are also distributed around the residential wings of Brasilia, while close to the Rodoviaria (Bus Station), the Setor de Diversoes is also well-known for its shopping, particularly around its northern Conjunto Nacional district.

For market shopping in Brasilia, consider spending time at the imports market named the 'Feira dos Importados', exploring the 2,000 market stalls and kiosks, or at the Sunday flea market based at the Television Tower.
