Brasilia Art Galleries

(Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil)

As you stroll the city's streets, you will soon realise that art is everywhere, in the Oscar Niemeyer designed buildings, in the Burle Marx landscapes, and in the public sculptures peppered around Brasilia, created by artists such as Bruno Giorgio.

Brasilia contains a large selection of public galleries, where you can purchase art works in all shapes and sizes, and price ranges. However, if you are looking for permanent collections of art open to the general public, then the principal gallery is without question the Museu de Arte (Brasilia Museum of Art).

Established in the mid-1980s by the state, the Brasilia Museum of Art came into being to preserve and display the wonderful works of contemporary Brazilian art. With more than 700 pieces on display within its galleries at any given time, many of which are changed on a regular basis, there is certainly plenty here to fill an afternoon - and with admission being completely free of charge, there really is no good reason not to pop your head in and enjoy a spot of serious art appreciation.
