One major attraction is St. George's Parish, where the original Bermudan colony was founded. Also of interest is Flatts Village in Smith's Parish, Somerset Village in Sandy's Parish, and Warwick Long Bay at Warwick Parish. Another popular parish within reach of Hamilton is Southampton, where the seafood dining, golfing and sandy beaches are what visitors tend to enjoy the most.

Smith's Parish

Smith's Parish is located on the north-easterly side of the main island, next to the southern shore of the Harrington Sound, and is where you will find Flatts Village, one of the most popular day trip destinations on the island. Flatts Village is charming and quiet, and borders the Spittal Pond Nature Reserve. An in-town highlight is the hilltop St. Mark's Church, while further attractions include both John Smith's Bay and the Verdmont Museum, which is owned and operated at the Bermuda National Trust.

Southampton Parish

South-west of Hamilton, Southampton Parish is best known for being home to the popular beach at Horseshoe Bay.

This is a favourite daytime retreat for guests of local hotels and it features plenty of space for parking. Waterfront restaurants and impressive golf courses fill out the list of places to go here. Church Bay, Riddell's Bay and Whale Bay also reside within this parish.

St. George's

On the easternmost edge of Bermuda, St. George's Parish was the island's busiest sector in the early 17th century. The town of St. George's was the second British colony established in the Americas and it served as capital of Bermuda until the early 19th century. Visitors to St. George's often head to Tobacco Bay Beach, Somers Garden or to the replica of HMS Deliverance, while King's Square forms the heart of the action. Other attractions in this area include St. David's Island, St. George's Island and Tucker's Town.

Easily the best caverns in Bermuda, Crystal Caves was first explored in the early 1900s. A path slopes into the main cavern and reaches a depth of more than 35 metres / 115 feet, passing bizarre stalactites and stalagmites that are almost see-through. Cahow Lake is inside, along with a few other dramatic water features. Guided tours are included with the price of admission, and the interior is well-lit all the way through.

Sandy's Parish

Sandy's Parish occupies the westernmost quadrant of the island. This area is characterised by gentle, rolling hills and a refreshing back-country atmosphere. It also boasts Somerset Village, Somerset Long Bay Beach and a string of islands that make ideal day trip destinations. Sandy's Parish is a particularly popular destination among couples. The old Royal Naval Dockyard is a notable highlight here and comprises various attractions, such as the Dolphin Quest and the Bermuda Maritime Museum, together with some warehouses converted into shops and restaurants.

Warwick Parish

Renowned for its natural beauty, Warwick Parish offers immaculate beaches headlined by Warwick Long Bay, as well as some spectacular cliffs. The beach at Warwick Long Bay remains relatively quiet, since the sand here is quite steeply banked and the undercurrent can be strong. The neighbouring Chaplin Bay, Jonson's Cove and Stonehole Bay are especially stunning. Daytime visitors can head along meandering roads in the countryside. In the evening, the parish is refreshingly quiet.
