The Swebus Express also travels between Uppsala and Stockholm, with direct services lasting no more than an hour.

Within the city itself, many visitors find that purchasing the Uppsala Card is a good way to reduce transport costs, since this allows unlimited free travel on all of the city's buses, along with free car parking, free admission for children to the swimming pool at the Fyrishov sports complex, and discounts for a range of additional activities.

Located some 38 km / 24 miles to the south-east of central Uppsala, Stockholm Arlanda Airport can be reached in around 30 minutes by road, being connected by the E4 highway. With annual passenger numbers now exceeding over 18 million people and continuing to grow year on year, Arlanda Airport is always busy. Those wishing to travel into central Stockholm will find that the speedy Arlanda Express train is amongst the fastest option, while buses, taxis and car hire provide the best way to reach nearby Uppsala.

Car Rental

Renting a car is always a convenient way to travel into Uppsala from Arlanda Airport and the city is well signposted along the way. Most visitors staying in Uppsala will find little need to drive around the city and parking spaces are not always each to locate, although hotels usually provide allocated parking spaces for a small charge. However, a car is the ultimate mode of transport when it comes to freedom and convenience, and allows you to travel to close by destinations, such as Huddinge, Norrtälje, Osthammar, Tierp and Västeras.

Trains

Train transport in Uppsala is fast and timely, with SJ trains reaching the city of Stockholm in around 40 minutes. Many other popular Swedish destinations, which can be reached from the city's train station include Gävle (50 minutes), Mora (just over three hours) and also Ostersund (six hours).

Buses and Coaches

City bus transport is a cheap and popular way to travel in Uppsala and most depart from the Stora Torget. Bus tickets can be purchased directly from the actual driver, remaining valid for a total of an hour and a half. If you are intending to use the city's bus network extensively during your time in Sweden, do consider purchasing a 'värdekort' travel card. The Flygbuss travels to and from Stockholm Arlanda Airport each hour, departing from the city's Scandic Hotel Uplandia. Long-distance bus transport is also readily available in Uppsala, travelling to cities such as Falun (three hours and 30 minutes), Gävle (one hour and 40 minutes), Orebro (three hours), Stockholm (one hour) and Västeras (one hour and 30 minutes). Karlstad, Orebro and Västeras are also connected by Svenska Buss.
