Uppsala Hotels and Accommodation

(Uppsala, Uppsala County, Sweden)

Picture of the Stora Torget areaDue to its relatively close proximity to the capital city of Stockholm, which lies less than an hour to the south, most people find that accommodation in Uppsala is considerably cheaper and the location lends itself to day trips. The most popular hotels in Uppsala tend to be close to the railway station (Centralstationen) and off the thoroughfares of Kungsgatan and Vaksalagatan.

The Hotel Uppsala is actually situated along the Kungsgatan itself, where it stands proudly as the largest hotel within the whole city and is just a short walk away from the action. Close by, on the eastern banks of the River Fyris, the Bangardsgatan is another central spot, where various accommodation and lodging options are usually readily available.

Where to Stay

Close to the intersection of the Kungsgatan and Vaksalagatan is the Uppsala Vandrarhem City Hostel, which resides on the Sankt Persgatan and is known for its sheer convenience and extremely affordable accommodation. Offering some of the cheapest and best-placed rooms in central Uppsala, the Vandrarhem City Hostel is a good alternative to more mainstream hotels and features a selection of small guest rooms, as well as traditional dormitory-style accommodation.

Just off the Kungsgatan and still close to the city centre are a number of hotels along the Dragarbrunnsgatan, such as the Scandic Uppsala Nord, which boasts a well-equipped fitness centre. Across the River Fyris and on the western banks are a number of hotels around areas such as the Skolgatan and Sankt Johannesgatan, the latter of which is particularly close to the Engelskaparken (English Park) and the Botaniskatradgárden (Botanical Garden).
