Uppsala Shopping and Districts

(Uppsala, Uppsala County, Sweden)

Picture of shops in the city centreThere is plenty of choice in Uppsala when it comes to shopping and visitors will be pleased to find a range of quality souvenirs, including many goods made from local reindeer leather. Other popular gift ideas in Uppsala include glassware, small iron sculptures, painted plates, printed towels and regional Swedish handicrafts.

In recent years, Uppsala has seen a notable trend, where many large stores and shopping centres have now set themselves up actually away from the city centre and on the very outskirts. The northern Gränby Centrum is one such shopping mall and is amongst the biggest of its kind in the whole of Sweden, lying around 3 km / 2 miles to the north of the city centre.

Where to Shop

For more central shops, close to many of the main hotels in Uppsala, look no further than the Forum Galleria and the nearby St. Pers Galleria shopping centres, both of which are next to the Dragarbrunnsgatan and off the Kunsgatan. Further shops line the neighbouring street of Bangardsgatan, which is just a short walk from the railway station.

One of the best places for honest and reasonably priced gifts is the actual shop within the Uppsala Tourist Office on the Fyristorg, and there is also plenty of further shopping around this area and the connecting Drottninggatan. Close to the Uppsala Cathedral, be sure to check out the regular markets within the Saluhallen on the Sysslomansgata, or the open-air markets each Saturday on the square of Vaksala Torg, where there is always the opportunity of shopping for a bargain or two, amidst the hustle and bustle.
