Bologna Hotels and Accommodation

(Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy)

A large percentage of all the accommodation in Bologna does tend to target business travellers, and there is certainly a lack of cheap hotels. Lodging rates rise sharply during Bologna's seasonal spring (March to early May) and autumn (September to December) trade fairs, when prices are known to as much as double.

During the trade fairs, hotels in Bologna often prefer to accept block bookings, and so if you are try to reserve just one room, you may well need to shop around. However, accommodation is much easier to come by in the considerably quieter summer months of July and August, which is always a good time to pay a visit to the Emilia-Romagna area of Italy.

The tourist offices of Bologna usually have listings of available hotels and in particular, the Centre for Tourist Services on the Piazza Maggiore will happily book lodging for you at no cost. If you favour budget accommodation, then consider Bologna's highly recommended youth hostel, the San Sisto-Due Torri, which stands just outside of the city, on the Via Viadagola.

The very central Piazza Maggiore is surrounded by hotels and places of interest, and is always a very popular part of the city in which to stay, being just a stroll from the Piazza Galileo, the Piazza Minghetti and the Piazza di Porta Ravegnana. Alternatively, consider lodging along the Via dei Bibiena, in the very heart of Bologna's vibrant university quarter.
