However, at times the weather in Sorrento can be a little changeable and even in the summer, occasional overcast and damp days are not completely unheard of.

August is the hottest month in Sorrento and generally throughout southern Italy, with its temperatures peaking at more than 30°C / 86°F. The gentle sea breezes from the Bay of Naples mean that the climate is rarely uncomfortable and usually extremely pleasant, whether you are on the beach or dining al fresco beneath a parasol.

The fine summer climate ensures that Sorrento is always busy and tourists will find various events laid on at this time of the year, including a summer music festival, open-air cinemas, and the religious Feast of the Assumption. Due to increased demand brought on by the sunny weather, many hotels become full and prices begin to rise accordingly.

Alternatively, an increasing number of people are choosing to visit Sorrento in either springtime or in the autumn. The springtime climate is especially favourable and those lucky enough to be holidaying in Sorrento in the spring will be treated to a strong citrus fragrance, wafting through the city, as the innumerable lemon and orange trees begin to flower.
