Dingle Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Dingle, County Kerry, Republic of Ireland)

Photo of Clogher Head, on the Dingle PeninsulaAlthough nowhere in Ireland endures extremes of weather, Dingle is more susceptible to a rougher climate than anywhere else as, apart from a somewhat sheltered harbour, it is almost completely open to the full force of the Atlantic. As a result, the town of Dingle really can experience four seasons in one day.

The south-west region of Ireland receives much more rain and lower temperatures than the rest of the country, so packing accordingly and expecting the worst is the best bet. Keeping abreast of the weather forecast is a must if you are planning to go mountain trekking.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

While the climate is, of course, warmest in the summer from June to August, it actually rains a fair amount at this time of year as well. The best time to go is towards the end of the summer when the crowds are smaller, the kids are back at school, and it is drier and still warm. Early September is as good as it gets.

The Dingle Peninsula generally receives the most rainy weather during the month of October, although average precipitation levels are not far behind between November and January, after which they begin to drop. Winters are pretty cold and snow is likely, although whatever time of year you go, it is wise to pack a waterproof jacket.
