Dingle Shopping and Districts

(Dingle, County Kerry, Republic of Ireland)

Town centre photoDingle has some charming shopping opportunities based around its compact town centre. There are roads and lanes leading from the seafront and main streets, where all kinds of traditional crafts and knickknacks can be bought.

It is good just to indulge in a spot of window shopping here, plus you can pick up some really unique items from local pottery, jewellery and crystal to traditional Irish instruments and woollen sweaters. There is much of the same away from Dingle, elsewhere on the peninsula.

When to Shop and Where

Remember, being a small town, shopping isn't exactly a mainstay of the local economy, but with dozens of tourist buses doing the 'loop' daily in the summer, quite a few local craft and souvenir shops have popped up along the route in unlikely places. Mostly they sell genuine Celtic articles, no tacky Chinese-made fridge magnets, so it's worth a stop.

Shopping options in the town go from tiny souvenir shops in houses that may double as cafés or pubs, to galleries, craft shops and supermarkets.

Tig Slea Head at Strand House is the longest established shop in Dingle and the best option for Irish goods. It has been trading since its inception in the late 1930s and is operated by Quills Ireland.
