The Imre Patkó Collection and its contemporary art works are to be found adjacent to Gyor's János Xánthus Museum, where many historic Hungarian artefacts and treasures are houses.

The Zichy Palace is one of the most stunning buildings in Gyor and an important attraction in its own right, housing a rather impressive collection of dolls (Baba Kiállitás). Known locally for its late Renaissance architecture, the Hungarian Ispita (Magyar Ispita) was formerly a charity hospital, today being home to the Péter Váczy Museum and its vast collection of antiquities.

The János Xánthus Museum only really warrants a look if you have time on your hands and contains a wealth of displays related to local Hungarian history. There are also a series of collections exhibited and these include coins, stamps and even some period furniture. Children will no doubt appreciate the natural history section.

Szécheny Pharmacy Museum (Szécheny Patikamúzeum)

The Szécheny Patikamúzeum dates back to the middle of the 17th century and has been a fully working Baroque institute ever since. The Rococo interior is particularly pleasing and its vaulted ceiling is amongst the main highlights, along with religious artefacts, beautifully crafted frescoes and some exhibits relating to herbs and their many medicinal uses in the past.

Imre Patkó Collection

The Imre Patkó Collection is located within the Iron Stump House (Vastuskós Hás), which dates from the 17th century and was once a caravansary (historic inn), being regularly frequented by visiting artisans. This museum cum gallery boats an extensive collection of fine art from throughout the 20th century and this pieces are displayed on the first couple of floors. Move upwards to the third floor and you will encounter many fascinating objects and artefacts collected by Imre Patkó, a Hungarian art historian and journalist who spent much time travelling around Africa, India and Tibet.

City Art Museum / Margit Kovács Ceramic Collection (Kovács Margit Kerámiagyujtemény)

The is a notable branch of Gyor's City Art Museum and celebrates the life and artistic creations of local artist Margit Kovács (1902 - 1977). Margit Kovács was actually born and raised in the city and specialised in ceramics, which often had a strong Byzantine feel about them. The attraction is situated opposite the Ark of the Convent and off the Frigyszekrény Szobor.

Zichy Palace (Zichy Palota) / Doll Exhibition (Baba Kiállitás)

Inside the magnificent building that is the Zichy Palace, you will soon discover is prized Doll Exhibition, which comprises almost 100 dolls and beautiful miniature furniture from the 19th century. If the dolls don't hold any real interest, then simply come at marvel at this 18th-century palace and its Baroque facade, or if your timing is right, you may even be able to enjoy a concert of theatrical performance.

Péter Váczy Museum

Today, the Ispita houses the city's important Péter Váczy Museum. All of the exhibits on display here relate to Váczy, a local history professor who was also keen on collecting valuable antiques with no specific theme. The museum's collections are varied to say the least and include treasures from ancient Greece and Rome, along with some terracotta figures from China, Hungarian art works, and much more besides.
