Ranging from Victorian architecture at its best to glitzy modern hotels and clubs, the beachfront at Weston Super Mare is dominated by its Grand Pier, which stretches far out into the sea.

Theatrical productions and shows have long been an integral part of Weston Super Mare's seaside appeal and both the Playhouse Theatre and Winter Gardens are equally impressive, historical landmarks in their own right, boasting year-round events for all the family.

The Grand Pier

One of Weston Super Mare's most famous and eye-catching landmarks, the award-winning Grand Pier was built at the beginning of the 1900s, and a more central alternative to the Pier at Birnbeck. The pier is overflowing with seaside atmosphere, excitement and plenty of seating, with lines of benches throughout the main length, regularly passed by a small land train which travels the entire length of the pier and back again. At the end of the Grand Pier, a grand pavilion housing a small funfair can be found, with the main attractions including plenty of slot machines, state-of-the-art video games, a scary ghost train known as the 'Castle of Doom', an adventure playground for young children, a big wheel and even tenpin bowling

Playhouse Theatre

An important entertainment venue staging a diverse selection of shows, concerts and comedy events throughout the year, the Playhouse Theatre first opened its doors in the 1960s, after being converted from a large market building. The theatre attracts many famous celebrities and stars of both the stage and screen, and features seating for almost 700 people.

Winter Gardens

Located alongside the sea and next to the Town Square Gardens, the Winter Gardens date back to 1927, when it was opened at a grand ceremony, complete with gold key. Today, the Winter Gardens still dominates the area with its timeless, classical architecture, and has recently undergone considerable updating, revamping and extension, at the cost of many millions. The Winter Gardens is currently used as a popular conference venue and entertainment facility and features an impressive ballroom.
