Beach sceneFull of all the typical seaside tourist attractions that you would expect and much, much more, the town of Weston Super Mare is famous for its enormous sandy beachfront, theatres, entertainment, open-air concerts and amusement arcades. Particularly popular, Weston Super Mare's SeaQuarium is full of fishy attractions, including many large specimens housed in enormous tanks.

As night-time approaches, the mood and atmosphere in central Weston Super Mare changes dramatically and a trendy vibe gradually appears, with many stylish cafes, bars and nightclubs soon beginning to fill up.

Beachfront

Many of the best tourist attractions at Weston Super Mare and based around its extensive beachfront and the resort is actually home to two beaches. Both the Weston Beach and the Sand Bay around 3 km / 2 miles in length and particularly busy in the summer, when crowds of families arrive for traditional beach fun and sunshine. Although the sand is a fairly dark golden colour, in fact some would even say 'brown', the sand is fine and the beach is clean, being raked on a regular basis. Attractions along the main beach at Weston Super Mare include donkey rides, a colourful land train and plenty of parking spaces, both on the beachfront and along the parade.

A relatively recent additional to the numerous historic seaside attractions at the resort of Weston Super Mare, the SeaQuarium first opened its doors in 1995. Built at the cost of more than £1.5 million and standing on its own pier, the SeaQuarium is now under new management and offers plenty of underwater attractions and more than 30 different aquatic displays. With sharks, eels, large piranhas, dwarf crocodiles, freshwater and brackish fish, native marines and an interesting ray pool, the SeaQuarium is also home to an underwater tunnel, glass portholes, a cafe and a gift shop selling a variety of fishy souvenirs.

Amusements

Typical of many prominent seaside resorts, Weston Super Mare is brimming with amusement arcades, which are sited all over the town centre. Offering all of the latest arcade offerings, together with penny games, bingo, air hockey and traditional jackpot machines, the amusement arcades here vary greatly in quality, although all offer bags of fun.

A popular tenpin bowling venue complete with amusements, fast-food restaurant area and bar, the AMF Bowling centre lies in the heart of the town, off Dolphin Square, and features 12 bowling lanes. Be aware that this attraction is extremely popular and can often be fully booked for many days, particularly around Christmas and the New Year.
