Winchester Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Winchester, Hampshire, England, UK)

Summer photo of the cathedralMost tourists choose to pay a visit to Winchester during the sunny summer weather, and understandably so. The climate is at its warmest and most appealing between June and August, when on the hottest and sunniest days, temperatures in Winchester have been known to exceed 30°C / 86°F, feeling rather like a mini-heatwave.

Although the spring climate can see some fine and relatively warm days, much of the weather experienced by Winchester at this time of the year feels quite chilly, cooled down considerably when it is windy. With summer just around the corner, May can be a surprisingly hot month some years, sometimes enjoying solid weeks of sunshine, interspersed by heavy springtime 'April' showers.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Although this city is hardly the first place you might think of for a winter break, if you time your visit well and find the right hotel, it can be an altogether enjoyable and very memorable experience, particularly if the climate is dry and the days crisp.

Throughout December, an open-air ice skating rink is erected outside of Winchester Cathedral, with a German-style festive market taking place close by for much of this time and adding to the overall appeal. And of course, the choir recitals in the cathedral itself epitomize traditional Yuletide celebrations.
