New Forest Shopping and Districts

(New Forest, Hampshire, England, UK)

Picture of shops in BurleyGift shopping in the New Forest is really best restricted to the main tourist towns, such as Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. In these two towns, shopping choices include plenty of souvenir outlets and newsagents, along with shops selling camping equipment, groceries, toys and wine.

Also in both Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst are some good cycle hire shops, where you can rent a bicycle for a day and explore the New Forest at a more leisurely pace. Good choices include AA Bike Hire on Gosport Lane in Lyndhurst, and Country Lanes Cycles at the Railway Station in Brockenhurst.

Where to Shop

In Lyndhurst, shops are particularly concentrated along the High Street / Bournemouth Roads (A35), Chapel Lane, Gosport Lane and Romsey Road.

Those shopping in Brockenhurst will find that the best selection of local stores line the Brookley Road, which is the town's main thoroughfare and often bustling with shoppers and tourists, being where a popular branch of Tesco Express is to be found. Also in Brockenhurst and on the Lyndhurst Road, a good outlet of the Londis supermarket chain provides the ideal place for campers and self-caterers to stock up with supplies.

Image of central LymingtonSmaller selections of shops in the New Forest can be found in Beaulieu (High Street), Burley (High Street) and at Totton and Eling (Rumbridge Street). On the outskirts of the New Forest, do also consider shopping at nearby Fordingbridge (High Street / Provost Street), Lymington (High Street / St. Thomas Street), New Milton (Station Road), Ringwood (High Street) and Sway (Station Road).

However, for supermarkets and the best selection of familiar high-street names, do make the short journey from the New Forest to the malls of Southampton (the Bargate Shopping Centre, East Street, the Swan Centre and the West Quay complex), or to the seaside towns of Boscombe, Bournemouth, Poole (Poole Quay and the Dolphin Centre) or Salisbury (the Maltings Centre, the Old George Mall and the Wilton Shopping Village).
