Eastbourne Hotels and Accommodation

(Eastbourne, East Sussex, England, UK)

Photo of the pier and beachfront hotelsThe Eastbourne seafront is quite unique for a seaside town, since instead of being heavily populated by gift shops, it is mainly lined with charming Victorian hotels. Many of these buildings were once owned by the Duke of Devonshire and when sold, strict conditions were stipulated, meaning that these particular houses could only ever be used for Eastbourne accommodation and lodging purposes, rather than shops and cafes.

Hotels overlooking the Eastbourne beach are understandably popular, offering superb views and being conveniently close to the bandstand and pier. The majority of this seafront accommodation is either graded as four-star or five-star lodging and is at its most expensive during July and August, the peak summer holiday season.

Where to Stay

Some of the most popular accommodation options in Eastbourne include the Best Western York House on the Royal Parade, which has operated as a hotel since the late 19th century and comes with a sea view terrace, the Verandah Bar and budget room rates. Just a short stroll away and also overlooking the Eastbourne seafront is the somewhat more expensive Grand Hotel, which is located on King Edward's Parade and in the past has provided luxury accommodation for the likes of Sir Winston Churchill and the British monarchy.

Standing just across from Eastbourne Pier itself and boasting views of the promenade, the Pier Hotel on the Grand Parade features a distinctive white facade, boutique-style lodging and an 'à la carte' restaurant. Another gem located on the Grand Parade is the Chatsworth, which dates back just over 100 years and is traditionally Victorian in its appearance.

If the town's mainstream accommodation is all a little to pricey for your budget, then the lodging at the Eastbourne Youth Hostel on East Dean Road, close to the South Downs Way, is both cheap and of a good standard. Alternatively, you may like to consider self-catering apartments, local guest houses and surrounding camping sites, such as those at Pevensey Bay and Polegate.
