Swanage Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Swanage, Dorset, England, UK)

Summer coastal photographThe Jurassic Coast of South-West England enjoys four very clearly defined seasons, with late spring and summer being when the best weather arrives. In recent years, the climate in May has been known to be particularly fine in Swanage, and in fact something of a scorcher, with the sunniest days seeing temperatures climb to more than 22°C / 72°F or 23°C / 73°F and the beach crowds quickly swell.

Although the summer weather is generally sunny, with clear blue skies and stunning turquoise waters, it is worth remembering that this is England and the climate can be typically changeable. A cloudy sky can soon arrive in Swanage, whatever the time of year, and bring with it heavy showers, only to be blown away by sea breezes and vanish as quickly as it came.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

September is generally another reliable sunny month in Swanage, with plenty of good weather to go around. Being just after the school holidays, September is generally much quieter than in late July and August, and a popular time for couples to holiday in the town.

The autumn climate in Swanage is quite brief and can be a mixture of sunshine, wind and rain, with mornings soon beginning to feel considerably colder. Winter can be a romantic time to visit the town, with some fine days, although with strong coastal gusts, temperatures can feel much colder, due to a noticeable wind-chill factor.
