For the ultimate seaside dining, Swanage town centre is home to a particularly notable fish and chip shop, which comes complete with picnic tables outside and really does compete with many nearby restaurants. Locals often choose to purchase takeaway fish and chips from here and then head to Swanage Pier to eat them, often buying a mug of tea from an outdoor cafe along the way.

Where to Eat

Close to the pier, one of the trendy cafes has become known for its fresh seafood, with both mussels and oysters being a particular speciality here.

For simple snacks, then the Wimpy restaurant on Institute Road is always popular and easy to find, being located between the High Street, Shore Road and Station Road. Many further eateries are close by, such as Antonio's, the Beaver's Restaurant, the Black Swan Inn, Fortes Cafe Tratt, La Trattoria, Tawny's Wine Bar and the public restaurant onsite at the Purbeck House Hotel on the High Street.
