Bournemouth Shopping

(Bournemouth, Dorset, England, UK)

Bournemouth Shopping and MarketsThe charm of shopping in central Bournemouth is that you are never more than a matter of minutes away from the beachfront, and yet the town centre is packed with all kinds of departments stores and familiar names, rather than seaside gift shops selling buckets and spades, sticks of rock and postcards.

Just across from the Pavilion Theatre and the aviaries within the Lower Gardens, many shops line Hinton Road, where they stand alongside the twin Odeon cinemas and various eateries. You can follow this road to the Bournemouth Arcade, which leads onto the pedestrianised shopping street of Old Christchurch Road. Bourne Avenue, next to the Obscura Cafe, and nearby Ave Road, are home to some of the largest stores, a number of which are clustered around the Avenue Centre.

Opening Hours

Most shops in Bournemouth open seven days a week, throughout the year, opening around 09:00 until 17:30 or later. On Sunday, opening hours are a little shorter than the rest of the week.

Town Centre

Close to Bournemouth's seafront, the town's main shopping is centred around the Lower and Central gardens and spreads in several directions, either side of the small Bourne river. Full of many national brands, such as Argos, Beales, BHS, Boots, Borders, Debenhams, Dingles, Habitat, Marks & Spencer and WHSmith, Bournemouth also has numerous smaller shops, offering some of the best shopping in this area.

Featuring several modern malls, galleries and Victorian arcades, Bournemouth has enough shops to fill several days. There are also a number of coffee shops and restaurants throughout the centre, where you can sit and watch the other shoppers go by with their heavy bags.

The streets in Bournemouth are mainly pedestrianised and close to the town centre, the district of Westbourne provides an excellent selection of designer clothes and interior design shops. Nearby Boscombe has an enormous shopping street and this includes many national brands and smaller shops, antiques shops and fashion boutiques.
