Bournemouth Restaurants and Dining
(Bournemouth, Dorset, England, UK)
The lively seaside resort of Bournemouth has many exciting and interesting restaurants situated in and around the town centre, particularly along Old Christchurch Road and Charminster Road. Bournemouth has more than 250 restaurants and bistros, and more recently has expanded its variety of cuisine, serving food from all over the world. These eateries range from basic snack bars and coffee shops, to high-class gourmet haunts.
Many of the local restaurants have superb, uninterrupted views of the seafront and the surrounding area, including the Bistro on the Beach at Southbourne, and often feature outside seating terraces for alfresco dining, close to the sea. For traditional fish and chips, there is a Harry Ramsden's establishment next to Bournemouth Pier, serving delicious fish and chips in stylish surroundings, with large chandeliers and sea views.
Restaurants in Bournemouth are usually excellent value for money and most offer discounts on meals for both children and senior citizens.
If you plan to eat breakfast outside of your hotel, then Bournemouth offers a variety of options in the town centre. One of the most popular places to eat breakfast is at the numerous coffee shops, which include popular brands like Starbucks and Costa Coffee. Most coffee shops open at around 07:30 and serve coffee, hot chocolate, teas and a wide choice of pastries. Other options include a number of central bars, which serve full-English breakfasts in their restaurant areas, including sausages, bacon and eggs, as well as other more continental choices, including cereals, toast and croissants.
Lunch in Bournemouth is one of the most popular meals of the day and many local restaurants, brasseries, cafés and bars attract people by reducing their prices during lunchtime. Lunch is generally taken between 11:30 to 14:30 and a typical lunchtime menu is identical to the evening dinner menu, but at around half of the price. Many dining establishments in Bournemouth also offer 'eat as much as you want' lunchtime specials at fixed prices, providing extensive, mouth-watering buffets, which provide excellent value for money. Also, a number of cafés in the centre have seating areas on the wide pavements outside, including the popular Camera Obscura Café, which is situated in the main square, close to the Lower Gardens.
Bournemouth offers a number of fast-food restaurants and outlets, and these provide a wide choice of food, which is ideal for picnics in nearby park areas and central squares. These fast-food eateries include the likes of McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, KFC and many smaller, local shops.
Other lunchtime snacks can be purchased from the town's countless bakeries and sandwich shops, which provide a good selection of freshly made sandwiches, baguettes, salads, pasties, sausage rolls and cakes.
Bournemouth restaurants generally open for dinner at around 18:00 and stay open until around 23:30 or later, although many may open earlier or may actually be open throughout the day. There are so many cafes, pubs, brasseries and themed bistros to choose from that you are almost spoilt for choice. Restaurants range from fairly inexpensive bar food to the most luxurious food, in gourmet dining venues.
