Within St. Ives, bus and coach transport is especially popular, while local trains offer the advantage of being faster, more direct and extremely picturesque scenery. Car Rental

Close to many points of interest and appealing Cornish towns, many people find driving to be one of the best ways to travel around the town and surrounding countryside. Those arriving in St. Ives by other types of transport will find it possible to rent cars by the day, for a relatively small charge, depending upon the vehicle.

Within driving distance of St. Just, Land's End, Penzance and Camborne, St. Ives is close to the A30, which is the main road in this part of Cornwall. Parking is rarely a problem around St. Ives and various car parks are available, often being close to the seafront. A popular park and ride location can also be found in the Lelant area, off St. Ives Road and past Carbis Bay.

Buses and Coaches

Local buses depart at regular intervals from the Royal Square, directly opposite the cinema, and travel to various locations around the town, including holiday parks and prominent hotels. Further bus transport can be found close to the railway station's car park, with buses travelling to and from Camborne, Penzance, Redruth and also Truro, amongst other locations.

Coach companies offering transport further afield include the locally managed Western Greyhound, Oates Travel and National Coach companies. National Express coaches are also on offer in St. Ives and connect both the London Victoria train station and London Heathrow International Airport (LHR).

Many people choose to arrive in St. Ives by train and this is a particularly scenic way to travel, affording many truly spectacular views along the route, including the sandy coastline around Carbis Bay. The railway station is extremely historic, dating back to 1887 and remodelled in the early 1970s. Located along Station Road, off Trelyon Avenue, the train station is part of the main line between Penzance and London Paddington. A more recent addition to train transport in St. Ives is the Lelant Saltings Railway Station, which serves the local 'park and ride' facility.

Taxis

Various taxi firms currently operate around the St. Ives area and are easy to request by telephone, either for immediate use or to book for a future engagement. Within the town centre itself, taxi ranks can be found at Royal Square and also at the Railway Station, although they are often quick to get snapped up.
