Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The extremely mild winter weather, both in and around the St. Ives area of western Cornwall, means that many gardens are able to successfully grow exotic and subtropical plants outdoors, such as bananas and numerous palms.

The summer climate in St. Ives is predictably hot, when it is not unheard of for temperatures to hover around 30°C / 86F during the best weather. Periods of constant sunshine in St. Ives can last for many days, even on occasion weeks.

When this happens, the air often feels muggy and a little humid, and the garden soil is quick to dry out. These spells are usually followed by thunderstorms, which although short-lived, can be rather dramatic. Sunshine is quick to follow and after a heavy storm, the air feels somewhat fresher and more pleasant.
