(St. Ives, Cornwall, England, UK)

Picture showing shops along the quayShopping in St. Ives is a pleasant way to spend the day and no holiday here is complete without a spot of retail therapy. As with many Cornish town centres, this part of St. Ives is dominated by local shops and traders, although a small number of high-street chains are present.

Opening Hours

Full of character, shops in the town centre are open Monday through Sunday, although due to trading laws, shopping hours on Sunday tend to be shorter than the rest of the week. In general, most shops in St. Ives are open between 09:00 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday, and from 10:30 or 11:00 until 16:30 on Sundays.

Where to Shop

The main shopping district in central St. Ives is centred around Chapel Street, Fore Street and High Street, where well-known brands such as Boots the Chemist and the trendy clothing store Fat Face can all be found. Also around Fore Street are shoe shops, jewellers and art galleries, with further shops around Back Lane, St. Andrews Street, Tregenna Place, Wharf Road and Fish Street, close to Smeaton's Pier.

A number of small hotels, pubs and inns reside in this part of St. Ives, and also around the nearby Market Place, where a number of further shopping opportunities present themselves, including a charming hobby and puzzle shop in the historic Market House. Those looking for grocery shopping will find plenty of bakeries, fruit shops and butchers around central St. Ives, and a large Tesco supermarket in the nearby Carbis Bay area, on the south-eastern side of town.
